Hello Ruby Rock-It Bella! Fundamentals fans! Please give a very warm welcome to our June guest, Lowri McNabb! She has created some amazing projects...and before we take a look, let's get to know her a little bit better, shall we?
Where does your inspiration come from?
Usually from the product itself, especially when I am designing specific projects for assignments.
I try and think of unique ways to showcase the product and pick out design elements that work with the ideas that I already have. When I create purely for fun – I still tend to work with only one collection at a time, but I also search my stash for other bits and pieces that will match.
What is your go to tool?
My X-Acto knife. I go through a LOT of blades and I always have an adhesive eraser and super-fine sandpaper to smooth off any tiny rough edges on the paper.
I also love my 6” metal ruler for cutting and I just purchased my new favorite item – a magnetic cutting mat!
What is YOUR signature item (the one thing that ALWAYS ends up in your projects)?
I love chipboard and I use that a LOT. I love it blank, pre-cut or as part of a collection.
Name one thing that people might be surprised to know about you?
Hmm – I don’t put much of myself out there online but…. I’m Welsh, I hate mornings but have to get up at 5:30 every school day and I cannot bear to look at, touch or smell baked beans OR ketchup!!
Do you have any other hobbies?
I love sports. I used to play a lot of squash, but since leaving the city and moving half-way round the world to live on a vineyard – it’s a bit tricky now! I am also a bit of a foodie and I love to cook and eat.
And now, onto her gorgeous work! Here's what she came up with featuring our lovely Vintedge range:
TRAVEL ALBUM:
This blank chipboard album from Maya Road was the perfect base for this fun, blank travel album. The pages are all ready embellished ready for the recipient to just add their own photos.
I covered all the pages with the paper, and added embellishments making it a really simple project for a non-crafter to complete. Where an embellishment overlaps the photo area – I was careful to only put adhesive outside that area to make sure photos can easily be slid underneath.
LOVE CARD:
This double sided heart paper was a real treat to find in this collection. I have created a simple tri-fold card (you can see a template on my blog here) and embellished it using elements from the collection.
For the 3-d card I die cut a heard from several layers of adhesive chipboard and wrapped some of the paper twine around the outside.
GIFT BOX:
This folded paper box was created using the Flourish paper with a plain paper base. (I have a tutorial for making this on my blog here) I went to town with the embellishments - but the recipient can easily keep the box after cutting the twine to get into the gift!
TREAT BAG:
I made this as a fun little gift for my mother when she looks after my kids. It has some band-aids, panadol and a small bottle of vodka inside – just for emergencies!!
EMBELLISHMENTS:
These little spools holding the twine were just too cute to ignore. I wrapped some paper round them and I know I will find a use for them sometime! The paper in the collection pack was perfect for folding too – so I made a few flowers – they always come in handy for decoration too. (I have a tutorial for making these on my blog here)
I hope you have enjoyed my projects – please drop my blog here and follow along to see heaps of other ideas.
WOW! What fun and creative shares we have today from our very talented guest! Please stop by and give her some Ruby Rock-It Bella! Fundamentals love!
Thank you, Lowri, and Happy Crafting!
